According to Google translate it means wine yeast. I picked these up from a local Asian grocery store and the cashier assured me that you can make rice wine from these. Of course I forgot to pick up Jasmine rice from there in all my enthusiasm (gee, why would I do that?) and I had to make another stop at Target for some Thai Jasmine rice. I'm now all set ingredients- and material-wise, but I'll need to find some time as it takes several hours to rinse, soak, cook and cool the rice.
Most likely I'll give it a shot on Saturday, while Sunday I'm going to be brewing the beer that started it all: chestnut brown ale. Well, sans chestnut as it's a bit early in the season for that. This will also be a good opportunity to test my new 6-gallon kettle as we'll be brewing 3 gallons of the ale, i.e. about 30 12 oz. bottles. It's going to be a fun weekend!
